"Plant Development" covers the development of tissue from meristems, and the internal and external structures of plants. Emphasis on apical and secondary meristems. The course starts with the development of primary root tissue, then shoot tissue, leaves, secondary growth, cork/bark growth, flowers, some aspects of genetics, symbiosis, and plant biotechnology. Information is concentrated on angiosperms, both dicotyledons and monocotyledons.

So far in giving this course over the last dozen years it seems to me that the major problem for students is in conceptualising what is happening inside the plant. I thus ask students to concentrate more regarding internal anatomy.

Assessment. Large assignment: 20%; 8 weekly assignments @ 4% each: 32%; Mid-term test: 15%; Final exam: 33%
